Synthetic By Nature
About This Event
Presented within the immersive environment of the digital dome, this programme explores the evolving relationship between technology and nature. Dome technologies have long been used to extend human vision — allowing us to look beyond the limits of the eye, into the sky, the universe, and the hidden structures of the world around us. The artists in this programme take up this expanded field of perception in different ways. In Entangled Structure, Marion Essl (Austria) presents digital forms that appear subject to the ebb and flow of natural forces, while Jiha Jeon’s (South Korea) Fixing the Rare: Breeder A imagines a scenario in which technology becomes a tool for controlling nature, preserving life, and resisting disappearance. Together, the works ask how digital technologies might not only reveal nature, but also reshape our desire to master, capture, or commune with it.
